Master plan Erlangen City Museum
In collaboration with the Erlangen City Museum, Thiele Projekt and Stratmann Architektur, a master plan was drawn up for the future city museum. This master plan not only sets out the conceptual and content-related direction of the museum, but also provides the basis for the planned architectural competition. The overarching objectives such as inclusion, accessibility, sustainability and ecology are taken into account in all areas.
Through extensive construction measures, the Erlangen City Museum will have the opportunity not only to create new spatial structures but also to carry out a comprehensive content update. In this process, the collection and the permanent exhibition will be revised, new thematic focuses will be set and innovative forms of storytelling will be developed to appeal to new target groups.
Master plan for the expansion and new concept for the museum’s content
Master plan
We received support from external experts in the fields of statistics, public participation, gastronomy and museum and cultural operations for the analyses that we carried out in the basic evaluation. Benchmark analyses of city museums and innovative event and exhibition concepts were included. The museum environment, gastronomy and events in Erlangen were also included in the considerations.
As part of the master plan, the content structure of the permanent exhibition was developed and the educational concept elaborated. These central aspects were incorporated into the definition of the space and usage requirements of the new city museum.
