East Frisian State Museum Emden | The Bog Body exhibition section “The Man from Bernuthsfeld”
The East Frisian State Museum in Emden presents the cultural and local history of the entire region of East Frisia. The museum’s most valuable treasures include the fully preserved bog body from the 8th century, one of the region’s most important archaeological discoveries. In addition to the skeleton of the 1,200-year-old Man from Bernuthsfeld, hair, clothing and a leather knife sheath were also found.
From 2011 to 2016, the bog body was subject to a thorough scientific examination. This time was used to work out an extensive master plan for additional sections of the museum. In addition to the development of an overall concept, the agency designed completely new exhibition spaces for the Man from Bernuthsfeld section in order to present the impressive bog body as well as accompanying exhibition contents and artefacts.
