Forum Opposition and Resistance 1945 – 1990

The Opposition and Resistance Forum aims to inform and educate, pay tribute to civil society’s commitment to freedom rights and democracy in the past and present and raise awareness of current social challenges. The focus is on the multifaceted history of opposition to the regime in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Dealing with history should serve as a starting point for a dialog in the present – about past and current experiences, about ruptures and continuities. The forum shows that many topics that moved people in the 20th century are once again or still relevant today. The forum invites young and old to inform themselves and get actively involved. Four pillars together form the Forum: an exhibition area, a knowledge repository, a dialog workshop and a research college. The concept was developed in collaboration with the Leibniz Center for Contemporary History Potsdam and Ernst – office for architecture.

Machbarkeitsstudie
As part of the feasibility study, a spatial concept was first developed and supplemented by a functional diagram. Two building variants were tested on this basis. Ideally, the forum should be located in a place with a historical reference. In addition, the forum should not only be a local meeting place with a high quality of stay, but also have international appeal. The individual spaces should facilitate personal encounters and dialog and have a transparent and inviting character.
